Congratulations to Barak Obama on his election as the 44th President of the United States. It's an amazing time and there's electricity in the air! The President-Elect came across as a very decisive and intelligent person in the campaign against Republican John McCain. Obama showed his calm approach and steady hand could caress the US population in the already sore shadow of George Bush. If you haven't visited the change.gov website and rendered your opinions, please do so - we need all the bright and creative people to step up and share what they think. We have to move forward and make incredible changes to our entire country to gain the edge again and overcome the current down trend.
Internalize America The best path toward fixing the economy and strengthening the grow of America is to Internalize - by this, I mean that we should focus our spending to keep more money at home, in the US. Before I get started, I need to say that no, we shouldn't become insular and wipe out all foreign trade. We need other countries and their good to help us grow, but we should try to focus on spending more money in American rather than outside it. I will describe a few simple categories in which this could be accomplished. 1) Buy American - yes it's an old ideal, but never more clearly does it define itself these days. It's good to be aware what you're buying and we should make an effort to make sure that we spread that buying around. Make the effort to buy things made in the US. I know, there are some things, and times, when it cannot be avoided. However again, it is good to support goods made elsewhere, but does it all have to be made in China? there are numerous other growing countries that could benefit from foreign aid that isn't poisoning us with toxic goods. 2) Travel in America - Instead of taking a trip to a foreign country, see some of America. There really are some interesting cities and beautiful scenery to see here, spending a little money on 4 day drive through the mountains keeps money here in America. 3) Infrastructure - high-speed rails, low-speed rails, better bridges, better highways (and more of them) water systems, power grids, emergency management systems, and just about anything else that support people making this country function needs to be developed. We have a great start, but face it, we only build it once it's too bad. We should work to grow before the growth hits and build better methods for predicting and planning growth. An area like this creates a lot of jobs and supports local business in a multitude of different ways. 4) Alternative Energies - Lay off the fucking corn, ok? Brazil has already proven that sugar cane works great and has a while system in place to support if we need an example of some people without their collective head up their ass. We should also pursue other methods, especially hydrogen produced from solar methods - it really is free energy! (once you cover the cost of development). Another area that will create jobs and help bolster our economy. We prepare for the future with not only clean energy, but training and educating the worker of tomorrow. 5) Education - We need to do better America. We should be building high-tech science based schools and ditching the classic rigidity that confines some students and allow them to enter an environment that inspires. A new level of education needs to be developed that embellishes the students in a deep and conducive atmosphere surrounded by many different areas of science offering extensive opportunities for collaboration and inspiration. Brent 8~ I purchased a book by Aubrey DeGray called 'Ending Aging'. If you're interested in aging, then this is a must. You should also visit their main site and make a contribution, it just might save your life one day - all of humanity as well, it's a good thing; DO IT! Methuselah Foundation - M Prize 8~ Major Philanthropy Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation I'd like to comment on how moving an article about Bill and Melinda gates was. How she has transformed the workaholic monster in to a compassionate and giving man aiming their foundation to eradicate disease and educate. It's impressive to see the heavy weights who also chip in and contribute to their cause; Warren Buffet and Bono. It's a deeply moving story of self-made titans and their efforts to help man-kind. Check out the site and read the stories! 8~ Please folks, for the love of all humanity, quit feeding scammers! There's no such thing as a legitimate unsolicited email offer! You'll never get rich working from home (in most cases) and anything that offers fast money, and wealth, is most likely a scam. The safest way to think about it is to treat everything as a scam and then work your way backwards. If it comes from a large well known company, then it's most likely legitimate. Look up the company, find a phone number, call it! Do some research before you do anything. But again, the best thing to do is consider it a scam and avoid it. You not only get these in email and see them as banner ads or such on the web. You see signs posted on telephone poles on the way to work offering you to work from home. These are scams! It really sad that we have so much of it here in the US, however, the freedom of speech carries with it some bad baggage. People hide behind it and loosely word their ads as to sound almost legit. More to come. 8~ US Vs. Them This is a basic instinctive mechanism that pretty much flavors all aspects of life. You name it and we have a black/white us/them attitude. It's truly primitive and it's something that we should work to grow beyond. I'm not saying get rid of sports or competitive entertainment, but we need to focus and tighten up some. Look at elections, it's either Democrat or Republican and that's now it was designed! It was never supposed to be a dual party system, but our instinctive urges have molded it in to what our genes dictate. I ask: Is it to mold society to shape the future of mankind or do we alter the systems so that they fit us? I do not think we can grow and continue to expand without great calamity and disorder if we do not alter our thinking to avoid the adversarial base. Other humans, other countries, other people, other species should be viewed as family to be aided and assisted not fought or ignored. We're all on this planet together and there's no way we will get along when the populations exceed infrastructure.
